The Pilot G2

I was introduced to the Pilot G2 at the tender age of 10 by my dad, and I was instantly addicted. Compared to the cheap Bic pens I had previously been using, it was definitely an upgrade. As I’m a dedicated G2 user, you may think this will be a biased review, but I’m here to give an honest one, and I am ready to admit that this pen has problems. However, I feel its strengths greatly outweigh them.

First off, the pros:

Sleek. Yes they are plastic, but I think it has a great design and they don’t get scratched up. Also, the ink doesn’t stick to the sides of the tube as it gets used since they use an ink follower.
Comfortable. The rubber grip is well… grippy, and the body is not too thin and not too thick. Unlike Bic, the grip does not come loose and slide around on the pen if you fidget with it.
Simple. It is very easy to change the ink on these. All you have to do is unscrew the body, take the old cartridge out and pop the new one in. Neither the spring nor the clicking mechanism will fall out, just the cartridge.
Sturdy. In almost 8 years of experience, the only time one broke was when I crossthreaded it and couldn’t get it open. Other than that nothing has ever messed up, even the clips, and I have broken a lot of clips in my time.
Long-lasting. Looking back in my journal, one pen lasted me 3 months of journaling. That’s pretty good.

Ok, now for some cons:

Slow-drying. I know this can be a problem for some people, and it is annoying when it smudges, but this is my daily pen, and this rarely happens to me. On regular paper that is. Cards are a different story. You might wanna blow on it before moving to the next line. I’m also right handed. Left handers beware.
Skipping. Have I had a problem with this? No. It happens every once in a while. But, I do know it was such a problem for my mom that she converted to Energelism and then tried to convert me too. No such luck.
Pricey. Yes, they are about $2.00 a pop but you could get the refills for around $1.00 per cartridge. Or, if you like to buy in bulk, you could get 36 whole pens for $1.10 each. A collection like that could last you years, and it certainly has me. I currently own 20… that I know of.

In conclusion, I believe the Pilot G2 is one of the best pens ever. I know people say its overrated, but they’re wrong. It is perfectly rated. Now it’s time for you to decide: are you going to join the Pilot army? Or will you venture into the dark world of Bic and Energel? Choose wisely.
